Myth 3

Myth 3: Lake Lavon is just a water reservoir, they can build anything they want on it because public use and recreation is not part of its charter.

Truth 3: Lake Lavon is wholly owned, shores and waters, by the Government of the United States of America.   To confirm simply research any plat of land that abuts the shore lands of the lake.   The custodians of Lake Lavon and other U.S. Government owned lakes is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Important to debunking this myth is the actions of the US Congress in 1962.  Those actions updated purpose for Lavon Lake to:

  • Flood Control
  • Water Supply
  • Recreation
